Today we didn’t get to visit Dylan at the orphanage cause it was a holiday. The holiday which was celebrated is “Kazakhstan Nations Unity”. Yesterday Vera asked us if they can take the day off today since they close off all the roads cause of a big parade and we agreed to it. We missed Dylan today.

We were told that there would be a big parade starting at 9:00 am. We met up with Jeremy and Becky for the parade around 9:30 am. There were a lot of people in the streets watching the parade. We watched for about an hour and a half and then we were getting fed up. They started with a speech, I believe it was the mayor of Taraz and then there were a few dances from different cultures, that was interesting. Then the parade started and it was nice with different costumes and people dressed up like for the company they represent. We then felt tired of standing, so we headed to Jeremy and Becky’s hotel. (Zambyl Hotel) We sat downstairs the hotel outside and we had a coffee. We have to say that Jeremy and Becky are another couple adopting from Philadelphia and they are great people and fun to have around.

We headed back home and stopped at a terrace outside and had lunch. Wow!!! I don’t know what we ordered but it wasn’t appetizing. We wanted what they call here “Shashlik” it’s equivalent to “Shish Kebab’s” in Mtl. We wanted chicken and it was so difficult to explain it to the waiter. We put our arms together and did the chicken sound and he FINALLY understood. Every single restaurant here has a fire burning outside in the front to cook the kebabs but somehow it does not smell like our Bar B Q’s that we are used to smelling.
