Happy American Thanksgiving

Today we were invited to go celebrate the American Thanksgiving at Beth and Vicki’s house. They had invited friends and people from the office at Interlink.
It was a great evening spent with Americans and Kazakh’s.

Thanksgiving Day Celebration at Saramoldaeva Orphanage

November 25th, 2010

Today Vicki and Beth from the company Interlink asked us to go along with them at Saramoldaeva orphanage.

Interlink Resources, Inc. is a non-profit humanitarian aid organization operating in the country of Kazakhstan.

Vicki Charbonneau is the Kids Connection Facilitator / Artist
Beth Turnock is the Taraz Director

Vicki and Beth were invited to go celebrate Thanksgiving Day and asked us to go with them too. They celebrated all day with various shows and concerts. It’s a fairly new holiday in Taraz and it’s the 2nd year it’s celebrated.
As we walked in the orphanage the kids, caregivers and directors ran to Vicki and Beth and attacked them with hugs and kisses. It is obvious that they love, respect and appreciate Vicki and Beth for all the hard work they’ve done for the orphanage and the kids.

Saramoldaeva Orphanage

Saramoldaeva Orphanage is an orphanage for school age Russian speaking children located in the city of Taraz. There are approximately 200 children at this orphanage. They live in what the orphanage calls “family groups”. The ages in the groups differs once they are in school and they try to keep siblings together whenever possible. Interlink Resources sponsor’s three family groups at this orphanage. Interlink has also put in a wood shop at the orphanage to encourage skill development and provide a way for the orphanage to make its own furniture.

It was a nice and very touching experience for us to celebrate this day with them. They invited us to have lunch with them and all their staff with lot’s and lot’s of food. Everyone was so nice and very welcoming towards us.

Guardianship Council

November 24th, 2010

Today we had our guardianship council meeting and it went great. They asked us a couple of very easy questions. They apologized to us for all the delays and problems we have encountered over this very long and painful year. They accepted our file no problem and we can now apply at the municipal court.

Cutest Visitor!!

It's 2 weeks since we left Canada and we can honestly say we haven't seen the time go by. We have been so busy runnung around and catching up with people we have not seen in awhile. After a couple of days in Taraz, it feels like we never left.

We had a visitor at our apartment from Becky, Jeremy and little Noah. They came by to say good-bye before they left for Almaty to continue waiting for some final documents before they can go back home. After seeing Noah everyday at the babyhouse while visiting Dylan and it was really nice to see him outside the babyhouse.
He is doing really well and we wish them a good trip back home just in time for the holidays.

Changes!!

Update on Dylan: he’s doing good and we are enjoying our time together again. He is more and more relaxed as time goes by. His appetite is AMAZING.

Update on Us: We are okay considering everything here. Things are not the same here and things at the baby house have changed. We are no longer allowed to get Dylan from his room or bring him back. Our coordinator must go pick him up and bring him back. We must now always have a translator on the premises with us. We no longer have that freedom of coming on our own with a taxi and leaving on our own and that’s a real shame because we must always wait around for someone.

We are absolutely disappointed, hurt, insulted for being so disrespected. When we see Dylan he just gives us that energy to keep fighting for him. He is just so innocent and helpless and needs us so much and we will do whatever needs to be done to bring him home.

FIL AND I WILL CONTINUE TO STICK TOGETHER STRONGER THAN EVER AND CONTINUE FIGHTING FOR OUR BABY DYLAN!!!

RE-UNITED at Last!!!!

Saturday November 20, 2010

ReUnited and .........................it FEEEEEEELS SOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!

Saw Dylan this morning and it was GREAT!!!!
Last time we saw Dylan was July 28th, the day after my birthday.
As soon as we opened the door of his room he started screaming.
I think he got excited because he saw new people at the entrance of his room but when he realized who we were he just paused and was observing us very very attentively.
He had the look on his face, "Hold on, I know these people!!"
Of course I started crying because he's just so darn cute and
I've been dreaming of this reunion for so long.
The caregiver brought him to us and I reached out my arms to him and said, "Come to Mama" and he reached out his arms to me and I grabbed him and attacked him with kisses and hugged him so hard. Poor Fil had to wait awhile before I let him go.
After I was finally done attacking him with hugs and kisses I handed him to Fil and Dylan went to him no problem. Not like in April when he saw Fil he wanted to cry.
So our 1st day with him went really well except that he lost weight. He got a little taller but is really thinner, but he had a very good appetite so we're sure he'll catch up in no time.

The cutest thing was when we would call him he would run to us and just hug us!!!!! Our Hearts Melted when he would run in our arms.

A couple of weeks with us and he'll catch up no problem..... Tomorrow we're going to bring him a plate of pasta and meatballs for breakfast...LOL!!!

After the visit at the Orphanage, we were invited for lunch by Annie & Eric which are the other Canadian couple adopting from Montreal. They prepared a delicious lunch and we enjoyed it very much. It was great!!! MERCI ANNIE ET ERIC!!!

Long Wasted and Very Expensive Day in Astana!!!

Woke up this morning at 3:00 am and took the taxi at 4:00 to catch a 6:00 flight to Astana to go to our Supreme Court Hearing!
We already had an idea that the decision would be negative but once in court things seemed to be going a little different from the previous week with another Canadian couple who was refused. We were told that the 3 judges we had were a little more comprehensive towards the situation. Our lawyer was so nervous and was trembling so much while she was introducing our case that one of the judges asked her why she was so emotional!! I said to myself why so emotional??? This is a human being that you're deciding his future. We met Dylan 1 year ago and a whole year was wasted because he was kept in an orphanage when he could have been with 2 loving parents in a very loving home.
But the conclusion of the hearing was the same, the judge told us to re-start our case at the municipal court and that we would have no problems.

The situation is very clear now but we still have a very hard time digesting everything!

There are 2 things keeping us from taking the next flight back home:
1- TO FINALLY SEE DYLAN AGAIN AFTER SO LONG!!
2- Becky and Jeremy have re-started their case at the municipal court and are the 1st ones to get a positive decision and today is their last day of appeal and they can finally take their SON out of the orphanage tomorrow and are OFFICIALLY Finally PARENTS!!!! Congratulation guys from the bottom of our hearts!!!!

It was a horrible day today and we are glad it's over!!

Arrival in Almaty

We arrived in Almaty on Tuesday at 12:35 am. Both flights to London and Almaty went well. We just had a little scare from London to Almaty, we were about to land but it seemed that they had problems with opening the wheels for landing and the Pilot said there was to much air traffic at the airport so we were going to land in 10 or 15 minutes. Mary and I were both looking at eachother and we were scared. Everyone in the plane kept on looking outside to see what was going on, but it was obvious that the problem was with the opening and closing of the wheels. So finally we landed safely. We obviously have been trying to keep up with the time change and our system is slowly getting use it but just not yet.

Yesterday we met with our lawyer and briefly went over the application that was sent to the Supreme Court. So as some of you may know, our court will be tomorrow morning in Astana. We will be flying from Almaty to Astana at 6:30 am and it will take about 1 hour and 20 minutes. We don't know exactly at what time our court will be cause they go by file cases and choose randomly. We will fly back to Almaty the same day and our flight is at 8:30 pm. So let the suspense begin!!!!

Preliminary court date

Preliminary hearing before the supreme court is scheduled for November 18, 2010.
Are we excited???? NO!!!!! Absolutely Not!!!!!
We already know that the Supreme court will refuse our case because they will ask us to re-start our process at the municipal court.
Nothing wrong with starting over at the municipal court but if WE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER INFORMED we would have avoided all these EXTRA STEPS, STRESS, ANXIETY, TIME AND NOT TO MENTION ALL THESE EXTRA EXPENSES!!!!

Just a little reminder, we were all refused because our children were not shown to enough locals. The reason why they are asking us to re-start at the municipal court is because now we have the signatures of the locals who refused to adopt Dylan and these signatures are only valid at the municipal level.

It's funny as we were beginning to plan this adoption we were given the choice of completing the adoption in 1,2 or 3 trips. We were so adamant that we wanted it completed in 1 or maximum 2 trips. Look at us now, getting ready for trip # 3.
It just goes to prove that Life Does Not Always Go As Planned, But we have to pick ourselves up and keep remaining positive regardless of all this garbage. We hope this is our last trip and that we can finally bring Dylan home!!

It's 4 months we have not seen Dylan and we know for sure he'll remember us but we just don't know how long he'll be upset with us. It's okay we'll give him all the time he needs and before we know it, we will all be laughing again, all 3 of us!!

This is what our schedule looks like:
Leaving Sun/Nov/14 and arriving in Almaty on Tues/Nov/16
Thurs/Nov/18 take the plane from Almaty to Astana (Supreme Court) and then returning back to Almaty on the same day.
Fri/Nov/19 take the plane from Almaty to Taraz (Dylan's Land)
Sat/Nov/20 - Go see Dylan!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember since the time change we will now be 11 hours ahead of you.

We will try to update the blog more often again.

SEE YOU SOON BABY DYLAN
XOXOXOXOXOXOX MAMA AND PAPA
