Today we went to visit 2 apartments as we'll be moving on May 12th. We visited an old apartment on the 4th floor which was a 1 1/2 and we visited another apartment which had 4 rooms and 2 bathrooms. Both were situated down town. We chose the 4 room apartment. Nathalie will be moving in the apartment right above ours and that is the apartment she lived in for 1 month before she moved in this house with us. The owners of the apartments live there also and are EXTREMELY nice. They have a very big yard, with lot's of places to sit and relax, they have a hand made swing, they have chickens and a very very scary BIG Dog!!!! When we 1st walked in the yard he was not barking....he was growling like a BEAR and I'M NOT exaggerating!!! The owner of the house said he will calm down after a couple of times that he will see us..... I hope so because I will have nightmares of this BEAR but I'll make sure to feed him something really good so he knows me even faster!!!!
We will no longer have a home phone but we have a cheap cell phone and I hope we'll get better reception from our new place. We will no longer have internet in the house so we'll be going to the internet cafe every once in a while. We hope we can continue to send pictures from the internet cafe if it's not too slow.

May 9, 2010 – Victory Day
Today is a holiday called “Victory Day”, Medet and Vera asked if it was ok to take a day off and we accepted with no problem. We headed downtown at 9:30 for the parade. The holiday celebrated today was the victory of a war won against Germany, where 35 million people died. Below is a little history of "Victory Day".
The Soviet Victory Day or May 9 marks the capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union in the Second World War (also known as the Great Patriotic War in the Soviet Union and some post-Soviet states). It was first inaugurated in the fifteen republics of the Soviet Union, following the signing of the surrender document late in the evening on 8 May 1945 (9 May by Moscow Time). It happened after the original capitulation that Germany earlier agreed to the joint Allied forces of the Western Front. The Soviet government announced the victory early on 9 May after the signing ceremony in Berlin. Though the official inauguration happened in 1945 (which means it has been celebrated since 1946), the holiday became a non-labour day only in 1965 and only in some of the countries.

Happy Mother's Day-Buona Feste Delle Mamma-Joyeuse Fete Des Meres
Mom, over the years,
We've watched
the wonderful ways
you've made life special
for our family...
the moments of love
and laughter,
the traditions
and memories
we'll carry with us
throughout our lives.
But most of all
We've watched the way
you've shown us
the true meaning of love
in everything you do.

Kazakhstan Nations Unity Holiday
May 1, 2010

Today we didn’t get to visit Dylan at the orphanage cause it was a holiday. The holiday which was celebrated is “Kazakhstan Nations Unity”. Yesterday Vera asked us if they can take the day off today since they close off all the roads cause of a big parade and we agreed to it. We missed Dylan today.
We were told that there would be a big parade starting at 9:00 am. We met up with Jeremy and Becky for the parade around 9:30 am. There were a lot of people in the streets watching the parade. We watched for about an hour and a half and then we were getting fed up. They started with a speech, I believe it was the mayor of Taraz and then there were a few dances from different cultures, that was interesting. Then the parade started and it was nice with different costumes and people dressed up like for the company they represent. We then felt tired of standing, so we headed to Jeremy and Becky’s hotel. (Zambyl Hotel) We sat downstairs the hotel outside and we had a coffee. We have to say that Jeremy and Becky are another couple adopting from Philadelphia and they are great people and fun to have around.
We headed back home and stopped at a terrace outside and had lunch. Wow!!! I don’t know what we ordered but it wasn’t appetizing. We wanted what they call here “Shashlik” it’s equivalent to “Shish Kebab’s” in Mtl. We wanted chicken and it was so difficult to explain it to the waiter. We put our arms together and did the chicken sound and he FINALLY understood. Every single restaurant here has a fire burning outside in the front to cook the kebabs but somehow it does not smell like our Bar B Q’s that we are used to smelling.
