Arrival in Almaty

We arrived in Almaty on Tuesday at 12:35 am. Both flights to London and Almaty went well. We just had a little scare from London to Almaty, we were about to land but it seemed that they had problems with opening the wheels for landing and the Pilot said there was to much air traffic at the airport so we were going to land in 10 or 15 minutes. Mary and I were both looking at eachother and we were scared. Everyone in the plane kept on looking outside to see what was going on, but it was obvious that the problem was with the opening and closing of the wheels. So finally we landed safely. We obviously have been trying to keep up with the time change and our system is slowly getting use it but just not yet.

Yesterday we met with our lawyer and briefly went over the application that was sent to the Supreme Court. So as some of you may know, our court will be tomorrow morning in Astana. We will be flying from Almaty to Astana at 6:30 am and it will take about 1 hour and 20 minutes. We don't know exactly at what time our court will be cause they go by file cases and choose randomly. We will fly back to Almaty the same day and our flight is at 8:30 pm. So let the suspense begin!!!!

Preliminary court date

Preliminary hearing before the supreme court is scheduled for November 18, 2010.
Are we excited???? NO!!!!! Absolutely Not!!!!!
We already know that the Supreme court will refuse our case because they will ask us to re-start our process at the municipal court.
Nothing wrong with starting over at the municipal court but if WE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER INFORMED we would have avoided all these EXTRA STEPS, STRESS, ANXIETY, TIME AND NOT TO MENTION ALL THESE EXTRA EXPENSES!!!!

Just a little reminder, we were all refused because our children were not shown to enough locals. The reason why they are asking us to re-start at the municipal court is because now we have the signatures of the locals who refused to adopt Dylan and these signatures are only valid at the municipal level.

It's funny as we were beginning to plan this adoption we were given the choice of completing the adoption in 1,2 or 3 trips. We were so adamant that we wanted it completed in 1 or maximum 2 trips. Look at us now, getting ready for trip # 3.
It just goes to prove that Life Does Not Always Go As Planned, But we have to pick ourselves up and keep remaining positive regardless of all this garbage. We hope this is our last trip and that we can finally bring Dylan home!!

It's 4 months we have not seen Dylan and we know for sure he'll remember us but we just don't know how long he'll be upset with us. It's okay we'll give him all the time he needs and before we know it, we will all be laughing again, all 3 of us!!

This is what our schedule looks like:
Leaving Sun/Nov/14 and arriving in Almaty on Tues/Nov/16
Thurs/Nov/18 take the plane from Almaty to Astana (Supreme Court) and then returning back to Almaty on the same day.
Fri/Nov/19 take the plane from Almaty to Taraz (Dylan's Land)
Sat/Nov/20 - Go see Dylan!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember since the time change we will now be 11 hours ahead of you.

Court Decisions

Setpember 8, 2010

1-May 18,2010 - Municipal Court in Taraz--Refused
2-July 7, 2010 - Regional Court in Taraz--Refused
3-September 8, 2010 Regional Court in Taraz (3 judges) -- REFUSED
4-Maybe December/2010???- Supreme Court in Astana -- ??????

3rd Denial and we really weren't surprised. Yes we are upset at the fact that Dylan continues to sit in an orphanage, upset at their very cruel illogical system but we are relieved that there will no longer be anymore courts in Taraz.

We can now finally focus on our last and final court which should be about December.
It will be exactly 1 year we met Dylan in December. The Supreme court is in Astana which is the capital of Kazakhstan. Who would have thought we would have to fight for him for over 1 year.

We are not giving up on you Dylan, We Will Fight For You Until We Can Bring You Home!

BAby Zak!!!

Another great reason about being back home is I will be able to meet my 1st nephew as soon as he’s born which should be September 29th by c-section!!!

Back in May when we were in Kazakhstan and we got our 1st refusal, I remember having a conversation with my pregnant sister-in-law and I was joking with her saying that Zak would be born before Dlyan came home and we laughed because it seemed impossible and so far away. Well that joke is in fact now the reality, but that’s not important. What’s important is that my nephew “ZAK” is healthy and that Dylan comes home one day.

1 Month Back Home

September 3rd, 2010

Today is 1 month that we have been back home. It’s really great to be home but we always feel that something is missing. Being home in our own environment gives us a clearer picture of the entire nightmare. We miss Dylan so much and we knew coming back home would be extremely difficult to be apart from him. It’s harder on us than it is for Dylan to be apart from each other because Dylans’ life in the orphanage is the only life he has ever known. We are both so very grateful to have had the opportunity to see him every single day for 4 months but we have to keep in mind that the rest of his 22 hours is exactly the same thing. We get updates on Dylan and he’s doing really well.
We will have plenty of time to catch up with him one day when we finally win this war and he will never go another day without us.

We have to say the best therapy for our moral since we’ve been back is seeing all our friends and family again. The support we keep getting is amazing and it’s something we will never forget. Whether we are invited somewhere or we are home we are never alone and are always kept busy with everyone and it really helps us to get distracted.
We were afraid of being attacked with questions or comments when we got home but on the contrary everyone has been so extremely sympathetic and supportive!!!!!!!!!!

Ital-Canadian!!!

After living several months in Kazakhstan we must say we have never been so proud to be Canadian and especially proud to be Italian! Canada is just such a beautiful place and a wonderful civilized country with many opportunities.

Being the descendants of a typical Italian family, we realize how glad we are to have such strong family values and traditions.

We can now relate and have a small understanding of what it was like for our parents, relatives and friends that immigrated from Italy to Canada. We know and understand living in a country where nobody speaks your language.

Our parents immigrated to Canada to provide a better life for themselves and especially for their future kids. They came to Canada with no money, not knowing a word of English or French, not having much (if any)education, not knowing anything about the country’s culture, weather etc, and worst of all having left behind their parents, brothers, sisters and many other family members. They worked extremely hard and accepted all the jobs that no one else wanted day and night trying to make ends meet. Apart from their daily jobs they also continued the tradition of making their own home made pasta, sausages, prosciutto, soppressata, tomato sauce, wine, grappa, limoncello, vinegar, cheese, marinated vegetables, olives, jams, pesto, pizza, spices, desserts, and they grow any possible vegetable and fruit in their garden.

Unfortunately we the younger generation are slipping away from making these homemade goodies. I hope that we can continue this tradition because it’s simply the best food and tastes amazing compared to the commercial bought products filled with preservatives and chemicals.

I dedicate today’s blog to our parents, all our family and friends that immigrated to Canada for a better life. It must have taken a lot of courage to leave a beautiful country such as Italy and move to Canada to start a life from scratch.

Attached are some pictures of Fil and I helping his parents make the tomato sauce. It’s not difficult to do but it’s a very long procedure and it took us all day.
